Being a slave was hard. They had to work most of the day. An overseer would look over them and whip anyone they thought was slacking off. Food was poor. Housing was usually given by the owner, and they would have two sets of clothes a year.
Slave endured hours of painful and tiring work for no pay and were punished severely for minor offences. The slaves were treated like rubbish as they were property of the person they worked for not people.
A slaves life was extremely hard. they were punished and beaten for almost no reason. They worked for very long hours for no gain. They were most likely fed very little and still expected to work as if they had 3 full course meals a day. They would live where ever their owners/masters put them. The same was expected with their clothing.
The Slaves were treated terribly. People were taught to beleive that slaves had no feelings- that black people were inferior. Slaves had to work increibly long hours for no pay. Their beds were often no more than a cloth on the floor of a shack. Slaves were punished severely. They could be flogged as much as the master wished. Some even had their ears cut off. Even the best master flogged his slaves. The dutch fed their slaves three times a day with a decent meal during the middle passage. However, the english fed theirs twice a day from a bucket. Slaves worked very hard for no pay they had no food and unsuficciant housing and clothing which in todays world would be unnacceptable. by evan s :------------
It ws a bad time for racism, black people were slaves to the white and the wealthy. They wer only given a few items of lothes per year and enough fod to get them through the day. If a women had 15 children she would be released and free to roam the world without a care and men when a slave owner died or if they saved up enough money, tey could but their freedom.
Welcome to Philips High School's History Department Blog
This is the blog of the history department at Philips High School.
Our aim is to encourage students to find out more about the past and to achieve success at GCSE level.
We want students to enjoy finding out about their past and so will make a lot of modern technology through the use of the Internet, Podcasting, blogging and interactive materials.
Students will be given opportunities to work with artefacts and other sources of evidence, go to sites of historical importance, join in with additional history clubs, take part in competitions and to be proud of their achievements in developing the skills needed to be a successful historian.

Oh, apparently if a slave bore 15 children, they could gain their freedom, but would probably be captured and forced back into slavery afterwards.
